There are resources that give you layout guidance and samples of content to including in your birth plan.  In addition, as your doula, I am always available to help walk you through different procedures that will need to be considered in childbirth so that you are fully educated and able to make an informed decision.

Suggestions

  • Keep your birth plan limited to one page.  Most doctors and nurses will not read more than that.
  • If you are having a hospital birth you will need to be flexible with your planning.  If you find yourself wanting to change everything about it, many times nurses and doctors alike will wonder why you are even there.  Still ask for what you desire, but be sensitive to what they are required to do as a part of the hospital birth policy in your wording.  You will win more flies with sugar...so to speak.
